Totally Rad Wedding Ideas
With the release of a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie (and the abundance of Turtle costumes in stores for Halloween), we can’t help but become nostalgic for the ‘80s and ‘90s. I’ve rounded up some of our favorite wedding trends that reference these decades. Some are subtle, and some are blatant. But we think you’ll agree, these are some pretty awesome ideas!
Fluorescent lights, bright colors, and crazy patterns reigned supreme in both the ‘80s and early ‘90s. Consider adding a few surprising colors or patterns to your wedding day decor – the brighter the better. From floral arrangements to ink choices, don’t be afraid to embellish your special day with something bright!
2. Crop Tops
They’re back, and they’re hotter than ever. While they may have been a more casual trend in the ‘90s, today you will find them in a variety of styles from work out gear to lounge wear to evening gowns. And if you think this trend won’t hit the bridal industry, think again! Designers’ latest styles have managed to incorporate the trend while keeping gowns sleek and sexy. Dare to bare!
Anyone remember Steve Urkel? Well, he may have been teased for his oversized glasses and suspenders as the geeky neighbor on Family Matters, but now his unique style is perfectly on-trend. Today, grooms and groomsmen alike are ditching traditional tuxedos or suits in favor of more laid back button-downs with suspenders.
In the ‘90s, the grunge trend that evolved showcased the carefree and comfortable style of those that were dedicated to the look. Try incorporating a patterned bow tie or add a touch of plaid to a table setting. If you want to take it to the next level, plaid shirts paired with suspenders or a vest are perfect for a rustic fall or winter wedding.
5. Fun and Games
On your wedding day, you’ll want to be sure to take the time to enjoy the company of your family and friends. More and more couples are incorporating entertaining, vintage games at their reception. Guests will love reminiscing about playing them as kids!
