Mismatched BridesmaidsSeptember 4, 2014 by Jennifer Speer
For the last few years, mismatched bridesmaid dresses have been one of the hottest wedding trends. Tons of style-savvy brides are finding creative ways to mix it up by letting their bridesmaids rock dresses of different styles, colors, and fabrics. Allowing them to choose their dresses according to their specific budget, unique style and individual body type is not only a huge benefit for your ‘maids, but it also gives you the opportunity to truly create a unique and fun wedding.
If you decide to incorporate this trend into your wedding, there’s one thing to remember: the biggest secret of successful mismatched bridesmaids is to give your girls enough direction that they still look like your team, your bridal party. Bouquets, accessories, style of dress, and color palettes are elements that will help you achieve a chic, mismatched look. Here are a few different options to think about:
Same color dress, different shades.
Same style dress, different colors (or patterns!).
Same dress, different accessories.
And just in case you still need a little more direction, here are a few guidelines to follow if you choose this trend:
1. Sometimes different hemlines can create a look of chaos rather than cohesion. Consider asking your ‘maids to choose dresses in one specific length.
2. The brides who pull this off the best either give more direction than you believe is necessary (think creating a Pinterest board to clarify the color palette you actually mean when you specify “mint” colored dresses) OR ask your girls to send you pictures of their dress before purchasing.
3. Keep at least one thing the same. Whether it’s the style, the color, the length, or even the fabric, by keeping one detail the same across the board, you’ll be more likely to pull this trend off perfectly.
