About Us

About the Marquardt Ranch

Exquisite events.  Exceptional purpose.

Many people ask me where in the world I came up with the idea for a wedding venue. The idea evolved from the combination of several ideas to serve several purposes. This ranch has been in my family for over 100 years as a working ranch. Making a living solely off cattle and farming in the hill country just isn’t feasible these days. My grandparents, Martin and Nora Marquardt were very generous in letting friends and family come to the river and campout, fish, swim, and just enjoy a day on the ranch. My family and I had the same passion to share what God blessed us with and wanted to improve on how we could share it in a big way.
The location we built the venue in had always been so densely covered in cedar, my mother who grew up on the ranch, had never seen it. In the wee hours of the morning in 2004 when for some reason I couldn’t sleep, I got out of bed, drove to the ranch and fired up a chainsaw. It was dark so for about an hour I used the headlights of the truck to cut into the cedar and brush that covered a part of the bluff we had never seen. In a few hours, I had a pile of brush stacked up and a sunrise on the river I had never gotten to see. It was stunning looking down on the old swimming hole from such a great vantage point and new perspective. Picture perfect! Perfect enough for a wedding… I got a little more serious with the clearing and when I was done had a huge open area big enough to build what you see today. With the help of some friends we came up with the rough idea for the architecture and modified as we went along. If you stand in each corner of the building, you can picture what I had to imagine almost every day during construction.
Now that we have a business up and running we are able to give back to charitable organizations through financial contributions as well as sharing the property for outdoor events. We have teamed up with the folks from Oak Hills Church and Nineteen:Ten Church for river baptisms and picnics, adventure races, and campouts, as well as the Boy Scouts and The Boys and Girls Club of San Antonio and Hill Country Boys and Girls Clubs. We believe God works in amazing ways when you get in the middle of His creation and obey his command “Be still, and know that I am God”. If you know of any way we can serve you or your ministry, or church, please do not hesitate to call. We can’t always accommodate everyone’s needs, but we certainly try to do as much as we can. I hope you enjoy your time at the Marquardt Ranch!

Sincerely,
Dru Steubing, President

Unforgettable Memories

The Marquardt Ranch has always been about creating unforgettable memories, we welcome you to create yours.

The Marquardt Ranch is part of a historical legacy of early German settlers, and has been owned by the Marquardt family for over 100 years. It was traditionally used for cattle, sheep, grain, and hay operations but is now primarily used by the family for recreation, wildlife appreciation, and social events among friends and family. The ranch house, constructed in the 1890′s, is still in use today.
