2017 Trends: The Food

January 2, 2017 by The Marquardt Ranch

Welcome to the New Year! 2017 has finally arrived, bringing with it new wedding trends. This week, we’re looking at a central feature of any wedding reception—food. You can’t go wrong with tried and true wedding fare, but if you’re looking to branch out into more adventuresome options, this may just be the post for you! Here we’ve selected a few food trends of 2017 to highlight.

Brinner

We’ve all heard of brunch—now it’s brinner’s time to shine! The concept of having stereotypical breakfast foods for dinner isn’t terribly new, but what was once reserved for family meals is now being brought to the tables of wedding receptions all over. Make sure to balance sweet and savory options for your guests, and this trend is sure to be a success.

Food Stations

Can’t decide between BBQ or pan-Asian fare? With food stations, you don’t have to. These stations let you mix and match your wedding cuisine options so you don’t have to pick just one—and neither do your guests! Highlight one particular style of cuisine (maybe Mediterranean—there are lots of options there!), or use a number of separate food stations to make a veritable international buffet! Setting up a few drink stations as well will help make sure your guests don’t go thirsty.

Wedding Cake Stand-ins

Traditional wedding cakes are all well and good, but if you aren’t a huge fan of cake, you do have other options. Replacements for cakes are becoming more and more popular, and they are incredibly varied. From cute cupcakes to elegant dessert shots, miniature confections are all the rage. If you don’t have a very strong sweet tooth, savory options like cheese wheels are becoming more and more popular. Whatever your preferences, don’t be afraid to think outside the box.

Signature Cocktails

Signature cocktails are a great way to help tell the story of how you met. Maybe you both love whiskey—a flight of your favorites can be a great way to share something special to you with all of your guests. Another style of signature cocktails is the two-in-one. These cocktails are absolutely fantastic on their own, but when blended together, they create unique flavors that are even better than each individual drink alone—much like your relationship with your spouse.
